Piano Tuition
At Début our piano courses are designed to enable
students to progress quickly and to build up a repertoire of both popular
and light classical pieces.
Students are taught:
- To read and understand musical notation
- To play and practise scales
- To read simple pieces of music on site
- To develop greater and more complex aural awareness
The emphasis with the tuition is however first and foremost on enjoying playing music and becoming proficient. Examinations are available but optional.
Our piano tuition enhances the governments music curriculum and develops students knowledge of the main musical elements:
- Pitch
- Rhythm
- Dynamics
- Tempo
- Timbre
- Texture
Music Theory
Pupils study the Associated Board music theory
syllabus, working through the grades, from Grade I upwards.
Students are taught:
- Music notation (pitch and rhythm)
- Musical terminology
- To develop an understanding of musical elements
Theory lessons are delivered to students by working through
a series of exercises developing an understanding of how tunes are constructed.
Students who study theory combined with piano lessons receive a thorough grounding
in music.
Our theory tuition enhances the government's music curriculum, particularly treatment of the voice as an 'instrument', added to the national curriculum only this year. We cover many aspects of performing and appraisal through our theory classes. |
